Vocab words pg 229 1-5

1. List the main reasons for water scarcity

One of the main reason is low rainfall. Land degradation because then the water cannot infiltrate into the ground.

2. What is a drought? What type of hardships do you think that a drought could cause if you were living in a village in a poor country such as Ethiopia.

A drought is like there is barely any water and the air is not so moist. Living in Ethiopia while there is a drought must suck since Ethiopia does not have much water to begin with.

3.How does land degradation affect the supply of fresh water?

Because the water that rains cannot get into the ground so it cannot store fresh water.

4.(a)What is El nino? (b)Why does El Nino often cause drought in Australia?
El nino is the air getting warmer of the coast of Peru. It makes australia have droughts since all the moist wind that makes Australia moist gets blown away therefore causing it to have droughts.

5. (a)Observe the map showing the global effects of El Nino have on the availability of fresh water.
(b)Name the countries and describe the problems that arose from decreased rainfall caused by El Nino.

Australia, Wheat exports threatened by drought conditions across grain growing areas, particularly in new south whales. Papua new guinea, Drought related failure of food crops, leading to famine conditions requiring food aid. Peru, Flooding, Fishing operators affected by lower catch as anchovy and pacific sardine move offshore to escape warm currents(5 C above normal temperature). Colombia, Fishing operators affected by lower catch (down 20%). United states, Rainfall above normal in north western states(double the historical averages). Philippines, Lower rice harvest following drought. China, Agricultural land under threat from drought in northern regions and flooding in southern regions. Indonesia, High air pollution levels, following forest fires. Africa, Reduced corn crop in sub saharan region.

Bintaro Lama trip

Hello. Today I am going to tell you about my trip in bintaro lama and the stations I went to about cleaning the water in bintaro lama.

The first station I went to was station 5 where they teach you how to make sure that water is clean. First she gives us these tubes that has a cross at the bottom and fills it up with water. We then look down and you will see the cross is blurry. This means that the water is not clean. There are also other equipment like a thermometer to measure water ph levels.

Next the second station I went to was cleaning the water for taking a bath. They use a filter called a sand filter. How the sand filter works is that water is poured into it and the sand and rocks inside trap nearly all the dirt inside and then water comes out from a pipe into the bath tub with water clean enough to take a bath in.

The final station was station 3 where they clean water to make it potable. First they take a plastic aqua bottle and scrub the whole thing with soap. Next we shake the soap out with water. Then they fill it up with water and put in somewhere where there is sunlight and leave it there for six hours before they can drink it.

That is my trip in bintaro lama.

Water treatment plant trip

Hi. My name is William and I am going to tell you about how the water treatment plan cleans water and the steps to make water potable. You see there are a total of six steps to making it clean and i am going to tell you about each one.

The 1rst is cleaning water is to get the big and small but not microscopic dirt like soda cans or candy or paper for example separated from the water. They do this by first having these bars with a big enough gap in between to take out the big junk in the water. They then scoop up the junk into the garbage can every hour. Water the goes to another filter but this time it takes out the smaller dirt.

The 2nd step is they add chemicals to create flock. The chemicals are limestone, chlorine and one more thing.

The 3rd step is getting the flock to stay on the floor so it does not flow with the water therefore separating the dirt. The reason the flock is on the ground is because more dirt gathers so it becomes heavier.

The 4th step is the water that passed the first three steps go into a sand filter one meter deep. This is used to catch the really small dirt. They also use a special type of sand where most of the grains of sand has the same size.

The 5th step is they add chemical disinfects like chlorine to get rid of all those microscopic dirt particles. They do this so it becomes drinkable.

The final step is they make sure it is clean so they test it out by doing some stuff.

Those are the six steps to make water potable. But there are different ways to make water clean.

Splinter cell fallout

Splinter cell fallout is a book about a secret agent named sam fisher and he has to solve the mystery of his dead brother that somehow connects to a big terrorist organization.

The book was a bit of a disappointment but it was not bad. I mean at the first half it was interesting but at the second half it was really boring and it used a lot of words I did not understand. The characters for me were also not so interesting. Especially the main character since he was always so serious. I would give this *** stars.

Personal narrative. First day of school

The car came up the slope to my old school. The moment we came out of the car I started crying. I didn’t want to go to school since I was only 3 years old. We walked up the front door and my teacher greeted me. At that moment I tried running back to the car. But my mom held me and my teacher said hello to me. We went inside and I got in my classroom and started crying. I stopped crying though after I found out my mom was going to stay with me on my first day in school. I felt safe for a while until my mom left.

I started crying really hard and the teacher tried calming me down. I started moving in my chair and shaking with fear. Suddenly the chair began tilting back slowly. I didn’t notice what was happening until it was too late. The chair was falling. The chair finally fell and it fell so fast I went into shock. Next thing I knew I wasn’t in my seat anymore and my butt started feeling really painful. I cried really loudly but then my mom came back and managed to calm me down. After the whole mess we had nap time. Finally I went home really happy to be out of that horrible place.

Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy.

The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy is a science fiction book about these 2 people, Ford and arthur, Ford being an alien. They then have to leave earth because it gets unexpectedly demolished by these aliens called vogons to make way for a hyperspace bypass. They then hitch a ride on a vogon ship and thats where their adventure starts.

The hitchhikers guide to galaxy is a nice science fiction book. Sometimes its pretty complicated like I dont really understand so much about the improbability drive. But overall it's a pretty good book. I will give this **** stars.

characterization on Marvin and Ford

Today I am going to tell you about the characters Marvin and Ford. 2 characters created by Douglas Adams.
First I am going to tell you how Douglas Adams characterize marvin. Marvin is a robot who seems to have a problem. He is always depressed. Like in page 130 Arthur said that its an electronic sulking machine.

He also seems to hate everything. Like when the two suns were setting Arthur said it was amazing but Marvin said. I have seen it. Its horrible. This shows that marvin is a really negative and depressed type of character.

Now I am going to tell you how Douglas Adams characterize Ford. Ford is an alien that seems to be interested in new technology. Like in page 73 ford was getting really excited and in page 80 he was saying things like wow.

And that is my characterization.

The greek who stole christmas

The greek who stole christmas is a sequel to the falcon maltesers and is another mystery about a music star that starts to get death threats by this unanimous person and the two brothers are hired to protect her.

This book is pretty good and its pretty interesting but I prefer the falcon maltesers but this is still pretty good. Just more predictable.

yesterdays earthquake.

Yesterday there was an earthquake in jakarta. During that same day a snake went into the school and crawled into a hole. The snake must have sensed the earthquake before it happened. Anyway when the earthquake happened I heard it was big and people were freaking out. But in the cafeteria it wasn't so big. When the earthquake hit 38 people died. Bricks must have fallen on most of them since there wasn't a tsunami. But there was a tsunami warning because tsunamis are possible in jakarta. There was definitely no landslide since the terrain is flat. This earthquake must of happened because jakarta is in the ring of fire

Burnt

***

Burnt is a book by Anthony Horowitz's. It is about short horror stories like one is this young boy wins a vacation to the tropics but he has to go with his aunt and uncle. When they go there his uncle is obsessed with getting a tan. But soon things start to go bad like sunburn and puss.

This book is OK but I thought it would be a supernatural story.

the falcon maltesers

****

The falcon maltesers is a book by anthony horrowitz in which this midget gives some maltesers to two brothers and one a so called private detective to keep it safe for 1000$. They wonder why pay so much to guard a box of maltesers and soon find out it is worth 5000000$ worth of diamonds

I think this book is really good. It is really mindbending and keeps you wondering until the end of the book.

Favorite author

My favorite author is named Drew karpyshyn. He wrote some of my favorite books like mass effect revelation. He was born in july 28 1971 in edmenton alberta canada. In college he decided he would become a writer and got a masters degree in english He has a wife named Jennifer and a cat named roxy whom he lived with for nine years in sherwood park. But in spring 2009 they moved to austin texas because they sort of got sick of the cold. In his free time he plays the magic card game and plays golf which he is not really good at. Apart from being a writer he also writes storys for video games and is a scriptwriter. Currently he's just relaxing at home. He started writing books in spring 2000 when he saw an ad about recruiting authors.

But soon the teacher told them a myth that long ago some other people in this school also rehearsed this play. But then just when the play started the boy who played the phantom vanished without a trace. After it was told a phantom started appearing and is trying to ruin the play.

I thought this book was okay.

Morakot

This is how tall the flood is. As you can see the flood is taller than some trees. The water looks like its flowing pretty slowly.

This must be the after math of the flood.
